The Academic Year 2022-23 has been special in many ways, mainly because children were physically back at school. Regular classroom joy, fun during recess, extra-curricular activities at school, Sports Day, and Annual Day everything after two long years! Children, Parents as well as Teachers looked up to it and gratefully welcomed the old normal.
As a team, we decided to have our annual theme as “The Spirit Of India” to commemorate 75-plus years of independence of our country and the Spirit of our countrymen during the tough times. Across schools in India, we had children this year who were attending the school for the very first time, they had no know-how about social etiquette, school environment, classroom discipline, and the Indian culture. Many were new to the idea of flag hoisting, festival celebrations, eating together, and shaking hands or giving a hug. I am saying ‘many’ because some were totally new and the others have forgotten or had faded memory of it.
Through the theme, the rich fabric of India which has been spun by people over centuries was highlighted. Starting with the mythological acts, welcome and praises to the almighty, the sporting spirit, glamourous Bollywood, and the non-violent freedom struggle. Students performed role plays, MIME, dance, and music to cover the entire theme.
